Australian Open – Day 13
- January 29, 2010
Yesterday’s much-anticipated clash between Roger Federer and Jo-Willy Tsonga turned out to be a deer-in-the-headlights match. I’m not sure if Jo Willy was out of gas from his last two five-set matches. On a very cold night, Tsonga came out very flat and that’s all Federer needed as he dismantled Jo-Willy in 88 minutes. He couldn’t ask for better preparation heading into Sunday night’s big showdown with Andy Murray for their second meeting in a Grand Slam final. Finally some warm weather is expected and it could be 90 degrees at game time.
I’m really looking forward to the clash tonight between Henin and Williams. We kind of seen this match brewing for 12 days and now it’s finally here. Serena is 12-0 in the tournsament with the doubles title yesterday and just has one more match to focus on. It’s amazing these two with 18 Grand Slam titles between them are contesting their first Slam final against each other. There’s always seem to be some tension between the two since the 2003 French Open mysterious hand incident.
These are two all-court players and you kind of forget it’s Henin’s second tournament back and it seems like she’s never been gone. I think Serena has been holding a gear back and looked like the past couple of matches she’s been favoring the calf. I expect her to come out with guns blazing and taking the match right to Henin. I Iike Williams in two tight sets to pull off the daily double like she did last year. What an amazing way to start the year with the daily double.
T-minus 24 hours to the men’s final and in my mind couldn’t ask for two better finals. Hopefully both matches deliver.
It should be an interesting clash between the Bryan brothers and Nestor-Zimonjic, the top two seeds in the doubles final. Nestor-Zimonjic have gotten the better of the Bryans in the last year but it’s time for the Bryan brothers to turn this thing around tonight. I like the Bryan brothers in three sets.
