On court today…

  • Two integral members of Serbia’s Davis Cup winning team are in action against one another on Hisense Arena today. The last time Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki met at a Grand Slam was at the 2010 US Open in the 1st round and it was a 5-set thriller.
  • Japan’s Kei Nishikori is the first man from his country to reach the 3rd round at the Australian Open since the 128 draw was introduced in 1982. Can he reach the round of 16?
  • Ivan Ljubicic is the oldest man to reach the 3rd round this year aged 31 years 10 months. The No. 17 seed faces Spain’s Nicolas Almagro for a spot in the round of 16.
  • The 2 Swiss players to start in the men’s main draw are both through to the 3rd round here. Wawrinka is bidding to go one stage further than his famous countryman. Should Wawrinka win and Federer lose, it will be the first time since 2002 Wimbledon that a Swiss male player has progressed further than Roger Federer.
  • USA’s No. 1 Andy Roddick has reached the semifinals at the Australian Open in odd-numbered years since 2003. He is looking to continue that streak when he takes on Netherland’s Robin Haase today.
